A Hard Look at Humanitarian Assistance Challenges and Opportunities – SID’s Panel Discussion

(Oct 2017, Washington DC) STRAP while participating in Social Safety Net Programs in 6 countries over 5 years, favored a session at SID DC Chapter “A Hard Look at Humanitarian Assistance Challenges and Opportunities” looking at the global humanitarian assistance globally with possible reform and innovation ideas. The panelists included CEO of Crown Agents, VP InterAction, and VP Catholic Relief services. The panelist shared their perspectives on the volume and scale of humanitarian crises, famines, conflict states, and failed states; discussed both headquarters and field perspectives on needed humanitarian assistance reforms, and consider whether there is room for innovation within the reform discussion. STRAP presented their perspective on how cash transfer programs can be an instrument of change to bridge the gap between humanitarian and development assistance internationally.
